that should be very important to each of us because we should
know something about our background and our roots, if for
no other reason but to tell our children and pass on our
legacy. The two co-founders, Kathy Boulukos and Anastasia
Nicholas, have attended four meetings dealing with the topics
of genealogy, ancestry and learning the basics of collection
care under the auspices of the New York State Council on

They learned about how to correctly preserve old textiles,
photographs and paper documents. Preservation of such precious
items might seem simple. however, there are definite procedures
that should be used. Archival tissue papers, archival cardboard
boxes, acid free mylar envelopes should be used to prevent
decay and deterioration of the old items. Emphasis should
be made on temperature control, humidity , air circulation
and light. Key points were that storage should not be in
basements or attics since these environments should not
be controlled. Photographs should not be scotch taped or
displayed in a sunny area. They should not be backed with
corrugated paper or wood. Archival materials are available
in photo specialty shops, and on line. Embroideries and
old fabrics can be harmed by water since water locks in
old stains.
